(*Puff Pasties. Not Puff Pasteries. I’m useless at baking. PJ is the go-to gal for that stuff.)

I know, I know… yet another how-to on making pasties. And who hasn’t made at least a hundred sets of tassels? But I promise you, this one is different - we’ll be making Hufflepuff Pasties. Hufflepuff women do have bodacious ta-tas. It’s a fact.

And to those other Houses, I’m sure you’ll figure out something.

PS- I blame the following entirely on [livejournal.com profile] mischievous_t . See the cut for heavy graphics and gratuitous titillation.

Yay everyone! To the winners, runners-up, nominees, organizers, voters, betas, alpha-readers, cheerleaders and enthusiasts. This is an awesome fandom full of incredible talent, not limited to only those who were nominated. So Yay Everyone! Ya'll rock. So many put in a lot of time and effort to create entertaining fics that blow me away and keep me wanting more.

I've got some awesome mulled apple cider in the slow cooker (and a drop of brandy for those who want it) - you're all welcome to a mug.

Dear Parent,

I am writing to inform you that your cock is being considered for immediate expulsion. Draco Malfoy has been brilliant in class, lackadaisical to teachers, parsimonious to housemates, and has been caught sneering in the Prefect’s Forbidden Forrest. For this, Draco Malfoy has received detention Pi times with Firenze and has been made to fetch peni in punishment.

Were these his only offenses we could look the other way. We here in Broadway 'Peeps' Crookenheimer House often do. Our code has always been: Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus. However, we are unable to excuse the fact that Draco Malfoy transfigured a todger.

This is a direct violation of Hogwart’s first rule: Student-teacher liasons are strictly forbidden in the hallways.

Please be advised that there is a hearing to determine Draco Malfoy’s future next tea time. You are welcome to attend, please bring any willy for his defense.

Drunkenly yours,

Severus Snape

Head of House

Yay! Thanks to everyone who participated. The list of entries is below the cut.

While I was out saving the planet (you’re welcome), I received a message that I had successfully saved 25 square miles of rainforest.
It left me thinking, ‘huh’ – intelligent, I know.

I imagine several bulldozers lining up, their smokestacks pumping thick sooty exhaust into the skies, while acres of lush tropical jungle lies uprooted and in waste behind them.

One man speaks up, “Oi. We can’t bulldoze that. That’s AV’s land.”

A foreman scratches his head and consults a map. “I think you’re right.”

“And I know AV clearly said she wanted that bit saved.”

“Right lads, this bit here is AV’s – bulldoze around it.”

So, since I clearly saved the land, and paid to do so, I think that entitles me to some property ownership rights. I’m thinking about bulldozing a bit of it and putting in a nice imaginary house on my imaginary land. Once the house is finished I’ll invite you all over for a party.

Droxy's router died this evening.  So no internet.  No ETA on a fix.

I know this fic has been rec'd before.  I'm sure that it has.  But if you haven't seen a rec on it now, know that I love this.

I'm reading it slowly.  My first inclination is to devour it all down, but it's soooo good, it needs to be savored.  The Potion Mistress has blown me away.  It's chilling.  Her Hermione plot is fascinating and scary.  But her Severus.  Oh my.  Gritty, real, and so perfectly in character.

You must go read it.  Read the Prologue first.
apollinav: apollinav (Default)

Yes, I'm aware that I'm being a hipocrite.  Thank you.  I've just finished posting Ch 61 of my MLC Fic.

MLC for some girls out there is real.  There's nothing glorious about forced marriage.  A lot of MLCs romanticise them - not to knock any particular author.  MLC is fiction.  This is real life.  Big difference.  I get it.

But this still bothers me.

And I'm not going to listen to 'cultural sensitivity issues' bullcrap - I don't care that it's a cultural practice.   According to my values, it's morally wrong.

After the success of the Bellatrix-meets-Martha-Stewart post,  'How to make a Death Eater Mask,' I thought I'd post another How To.  This time I'll show you the steps of how to make a lurvely Harry Potter inspired quill.  If this becomes popular, I'll start posting more of my How To's, given I really enjoy crafting.

Just a taste of what's below the cut:

Be a sweetie and stop by [livejournal.com profile] christev 's LJ to send her a note of well wishes.  Don't expect her to respond any time soon though.  The poor witch is typing one handed.

She was caught by a nasty Tripping Jinx on stairs.  Her left wrist is broken and they were unable to give her Skelegrow.  They just gave her a massive cast.  Here's a shot of her getting tortured traction.

apollinav: apollinav (Death Eater AV)

I’m certain this has been done numerous times, but I’ve documented the process of making Death Eaters masks in detail. Dixiebell, ebil witch that she is, put a bug in my ear to go on a raiding party at Hogsmeade Witches Weekend. And really, who can say no to that?

Since it’s very graphics heavy, it’s below the cut.

Come and have a look-see at my new pretty-pretties. I commissioned  [livejournal.com profile] bblackdahlia  to knit these gauntlets for me.  I wanted them for my 18th Century winter impression.  I was so excited when they arrived today, I got kitted out in my wools (100+ weather) to show you how awesome they are.   If you don't know her, she writes under the pen name momodesu, and she takes commissions and even knits house scarves.  Think about it.

And because I am told that there are some witchy people out there, here's a close-up on my 18th Century buckle shoes.  If you want a pair, I bought them from fugawee and they are the 'Connie' style.  Fugawee makes all sorts of reenacting shoes from the 18 to 20th century.   And Droxy - according to the Hubby:  Historical reenacting is NOT cosplay.  Just like G.I. Joes are NOT dolls.  (they're action figures!)

By popular request, I've also posted the pic of the flowers christev sent me.

apollinav: apollinav (Default)

Guess what?  I got flowers today!  And that makes me special!!!

I am so spectacularly happy.  It's not every day that a gal gets flowers.

I haz teh bestests Beta in teh world.

LURVE YOU CHRISTEV!!!

Thank you!  They are gorgeous!

Ok - so it's not all dashikis.  I'm sewing costumes from around the world.  Middle Eastern, Latin American, African, Asian... about the only thing I'm not trying is Native American.

My office is tasked to put on the Multi-Cultural Day - with food, exhibitions, and entertainment for a crowd of over a thousand.  (We had a thousand last year and ran out of food)  I'm running the event this year and have an adequate budget, which is very good.

And amongst all the running around and minor details and ridiculous requests, there's the issue of clothing.

They want to clothe the volunteers with tradiional garments from around the world.  And do wall displays of folk costumes.

We had mannequins given to us from a department store, which is very helpful.  But when it comes to the clothing itself, there are two options - either I buy Halloween costumes that look like crap, or I buy real folk costumes which start around $200 depending on the country of origin and go way up from there.  My 'helpful' boss sent me to a website where he liked the clothing ... they were asking for a $600 down payment and the final cost would be decided upon when the beadwork was completed - ah, no.  My budget isn't that grand.

There doesn't seem to be any middle ground.

And mind you, the even is next week.

I was at an ethnic clothing website and my boss pipes up over my shoulder, "We could buy that one."  And I point out it's $180.  And he shrugs.  Shrugs!!!  So, like an idiot I point out why it's not worth $180.  It's a T-tunic.  That's three seams and a hem!  I could make that on my machine in like a couple of minutes.  An hour if I was doing it right with French seams for like $25 worth of material!

...

So, now I'm sewing for the event.

Fudge.

But, on the bright side, I did get to go to a fabric store with a credit card that wasn't mine and got to shop like a demon.  Doesn't do me much good, but it was fun.

I've knocked out the first garment, an oversized tunic with side slits and inset bell sleeves in block printed linen.

One down, twenty to go.

Woof!

Permit me to SQUEE a bit over[info]dixiebell12 for a moment.

A little over 3 weeks ago, some very pervy friends started [info]hp_perv_awards, and I wasn't certain how it was going to turn out.  And [info]droxy, who is awesome, because she's droxy, says, 'Let's see if dix will do the art.'  And I nodded because droxy knows what she's talking about, and dix seems really cool.

HOLY CRAP!

If you haven't seen what dix has done to the perv website, you're missing out on something.  And those banners!!!  They're incredible.  I am so jealous!  I swore as a mod I'd never put my name in the hat for another perv award, but I've got a serious case of the 'I wants.'  I guess I figured she'd just do a template and insert names.  Oh no!  Dix is making customized banners for each winner weekly.  That deserves some MASSIVE KUDOS!!!

Lookie!

I had the itch to sew today.  (No whining - TGC will post) So I made this cloak because it was the perfect length of project for my attention span.  It's *twice loved* meaning I recycled the fabric from a wool blanket I found at a thrift shop for $10 (oh and the clasp was about $5).  And I thought, gee... for a fangurl on a tight budget this could find a new home.  I mean, honestly, who goes around wearing cloaks and robes?  So if you figure you're only lightly going to wear something maybe 2 or 3x/year, recycled robes might make sense.  I'm only looking for $40 to cover my expenses and my time, plus postage, which I have no idea how much that will be, but I might be able to fit it into a flat rate box.  Regardless, I don't believe in charging more for shipping than the actual cost, and I will also be at ZibitCon if you want me to bring it with me there.

The wool is very soft and comfortable.  It has minor flaws like thining areas and some staining, but it's not obvious.  I wouldn't have bought it if it was in bad shape.  It passes the wool burn test (acrylic and polyester check).  And if you know anything about sewing, it was cut on the bias for swishiness and to maximize the length and width.  It's a little over a half circle, with a seam up the back.  The edges are blanket sewn, and blend in.  The bottom hem is unhemmed.  Given the weave of this is wool, it's unlikely to fray.  All the seams are sewn with encased French seams, for durability, and the collar sewn down with handstitching.  The clasp is a (fake) gold filigree, but very nice.

It's quite long (originally cut at 50") and falls near my ankles (I'm 5'5").  I would recommend this for someone who is XS, S, to Medium.

First fangurl to email me at apollinawrites at gmail.com can have it.

Quick post, promise.

I have plans Sat Night.  About the same plans I have every Sat Night. I get my drabblin' on with the TPP girls.

If you haven't done it, I highly recommend.  Iz fun.  We gather in the Chatzy room.  Pick up prompts and leave them in the TPP forums.  I'd say the room gets hoping around 8pm Eastern.  Write your drabble between 100-1,000 words.

Here's why it's made of win:
Good chat with other Authors.
TPP mods are on-hand to validate and post in real time.
Several betas are usually available.

So... Any interest?
