Haaaalp!   Gilderoy stumped me!  (Man, is that embarassing to admit.)

Okay my crafty friends, does anyone know how to answer this one?

On Movie!Gilderoy's duelling vest there is a gold embroidered emblem over his heart.  It is about the size of the palm of my hand.  It features a large 'G,' capped by a crown, and the crown, of course, features little hearts.  (Awe.)

Bugger if I know how to make one.

If you can name it, I've tried it.  Embroidery hoop with gold floss, by hand.  Embroidery hoop with gold thread, by machine.  I've also searched everywhere for something sorta-kinda-ish-if-you-squint mass manufactured appliques - nothing close.

Suggestions?

Here's the duelling vest.  The dummy it's on has breasts, but the vest is fitted for me -without breasts.  So the dimensions look a bit 'off.'

All help is appreciated.

EDIT:  Woot!  Problem solved.  Thanks flist!

Do you have access to a fancy schmancy embroidery sewing machine? My mom does, and a couple months ago I downloaded a one-month trial of a program that would let me create a machine embroidery file (from which one can make an applique) from any JPG or BMP. Digitize N' Stitch is the name of the program.

No.

It's computerized, but not programable.

Though... it might be worth it to check out the local sewing shops. They might be able to do a commission.

If you download the program and futz with getting the file set up (to get the colors right and whatnot), my momma could accept that commission...

That would work for me.

I create a .jpg and scan it in to the program and email it to her?

*nods*

It's a teensy bit more complicated than that, but I figured it out pretty quickly.

Gimme a shout next week, and I can give you a hand hashing it out.

The program is super fun....

It's all I can do to keep myself from embroidering naughty knickers for Pansy.

And you're stopping yourself because...?

--And I thought you already had some naugty ones during the zibit con. Did your knicks go astray???

You left them in his pocket - didn't you!

Don't deny it.

Oh, I've still got those knickers. :)

Mr. PJ still shakes his head when I declare it's a Pansy day. :)

LOL. I've convinced mine to Cosplay Hagrid. (he's a natural fit - he's just got to stop shaving for a few weeks.)

Because shipping Lockhart/Hagrid is made of win.

I would find a fabric that is rich coloured gold and couch on some gold braid.
oh, and what happened to your breasts?

Mah breasts got cinched in an Elizabethan corset, to make me more mannish.

I tried something close to that, only it looked...um... amatureish. Has everything to do with my skill level. Although appliqueing on a heavier fabric than what I used, might work.

The original is thin and delicate, which I don't have the skills for. But maybe a big 'blingin' G wouldn't be so bad either. It is Lockhart.

Too right!

(I just have to figure out if I'm dying the hair, or going to ressurect the blond Ken doll wig I found for $7)

I think I have an answer on the patch.

If not a sewing shop, I would ask at a store that makes personalized shirts -- like monogrammed bowling team shirts and shirts with company logos. Just give them a print of what you want, they scan it and make it for you. They prefer an electronic file but most can work with a print. Do you happen to have a photo/drawing of it?

I don't have a good photo, but I can draw it from memory. I got to see it close up at the Harry Potter Exhibit.

Actually, PJ's mom has the equipment, and I'll have her do it. I'm a big fan of keeping things 'local.' And I think that'll work.

I don't have a closeup of the emblem. However, I do have these two shots of Lockhart's costumes. They might help you out, if you don't already have them.
