Attacked by plumbing

I was attacked this morning, by plumbing.  I'm trying to make it sound funny, instead of sad, which it kinda is, but I'm not crying because there is no crying in baseball.

I got up and ran this morning.  M/W/F mornings I make a stab at keeping out of fat jeans by doing PT.  Also, because I'm in the military, it's sorta required.  Anyway.  I got back home, and into the shower.  As I finished I went to turn off the taps.  The HOT water tap fell off in my hands and scalding hot water shot like a hose straight out of the tap.  I jumped back, and dashed out of the tub, taking the shower curtain with me.  I was only hit for a few seconds, but it wasn't good.

Timo turned off the hot water to the house and found the hardware to repair the faucet.  The thingy that screws into the plumbing and holds on the fixture was stripped, possibly from being repaired or tightened once before.  And there's a rubber gasket thingy that seals it, but the rubber has disintergrated and is barely there.  It's all fixed now.  And the hot water heater has been reprogrammed to not get so hot, since it's not like we ever use scalding water anyway.  The burns that spread from my upper thighs to my knees, and the tops of my feet, are only first degree.  It really is like a painful sunburn.  The skin is tight, and I have no desire to shave my legs for the forseeable future. Hubby will have to just deal with being married to Sasquatch.

Best thing to come out of the whole ordeal was my boss told me not to report to work today or tomorrow.  He's taking my 4 hour class tomorrow too.  And Friday I get to come into work in my Civvies!  That, and I'm making Timo play fetch for me.  So don't spare me any sympathy, I feel I've made out on the deal, and I'm milking it.  Timo even brought me a MickyD's milkshake because I simply wished for one.  So, I'm smiling because now I have an entire two days with nothing better to do than sit in bed and write more smut.

See, life gives you lemons and you make lemon drops.  Oh, no, not those candies.  Lemon drops, with vodka!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, so all's well that ends well and such.

Where's the new chapter?

[identity profile] miamadwyn.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
(wink)

I'm sorry about the burns. That really sucks, but I'm glad you're surrounded by people who are treating you like the delicate flower you are.

Now, sympathy aside, where's the next chapter?

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
You watch it girl. I will get you back. Just you see.

Chap up in 10.

[identity profile] miamadwyn.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
OH, I've got a target on my back for that one, believe me, I know it. I sometimes think I'll still be writing these last chapters when I'm 90. Sigh.

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I can handle that. I don't think any of your readers will mind either.

Speaking of... turn about is fair play. Now back to work! Get crackin'!

Where's my chapter 62...hmmmm?

[identity profile] mischievous-t.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
hahahahahaha - I think you're channelling me. :))

Now get back to work!

[identity profile] windypoint.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch. Aloe vera gel?

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I hadn't actually thought of that. Excellent suggestion. Thank you!

[identity profile] hypnobarb1.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
You are a brave girl and a dedicated author. Posting through your pain.

Order of St. Hugh, Second Class.

Srsly.

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ah well, you know... Sacrifices we must make and all that. It was quite the ordeal hitting those buttons.

On an unrelated note, (other than I saw St Hugh and went all shiny), one of the TGC reviewers called SS 'Saint Severus of Azkaban' patron martyred saint of Slytherin. I loved it.

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Was it really? May I steal it? I think it's one of the most frickin' awesomnest thing I've ever heard.

I heart you!

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
SWEET!

[identity profile] lilprincesspam.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Wow it does sound like a good deal... but I hate to be burned... there is a cream called ulcoderma that's great for burns i used on an hot oil burn and I dont have any mark from the incident

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
windypoint, above, actually reminded me of aloe. And I have a nice aloe plant growing on the side of my house. It's taken the sting away. I was offered something like ulcoderma if I develop any blistering. Thanks for the sweet concern.

[identity profile] sweettiff-14.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Eek! Well, I'm sorry about the burns, but you are one lucky girl!

*iz jealous*

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. You know, you're never logged intto ffnet so I can respond to the lovely reviews you leave me. I just wanted to mention that and say how much I enjoy them.

[identity profile] sweettiff-14.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I realized that like two days ago. I tried to get a user name, but they don't like this one, and the other one I use was already taken and I don't think it was by me. So, I just didn't worry about it. You story is just about the only one I read there, anyway.

Have I told you lately that I love it? (now I have that silly song stuck in my head!)

No worries responding. I saw how many reviews you have and I truly do not expect responses back. You're rather popular, eh? *wink*

Now I'm off to read the next chapter!

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
I actually try to make a point of responding to every review I get. Even if its just a 'Thanks for reading, glad you like it.' I figure if someone is taking the time to read my fic and writing a review, it's only right that I should acknowledge them and thank them for it. But more often that not I'm astounded by what I read and what I learn from them. So many interesting points of view have been presented to me that my head spins some times. I'm floored by how popular the fic has become. I was not anticipating this. I cut my teeth on Snape/OFC which NOBODY reads and was expecting more of the same.

[identity profile] sweettiff-14.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
With all those reviews, when do you write!? You must be a superhero in disguise.

The reason your story is so popular is because it's so good. Throw in the original story line and you have a wonderful fic. It's helps that people rec stories in this community. That's how I found out about it. Someone recced it at I thought, "Yeah, I'll check it out." Then it was mentioned two or three more times, so I ran to read it as soon as I could.

I really love that you update so often. I usually can't stand WIPs, but with the steady updates, it's not even an issue.

Do you write anything besides SS/HG? Are you working on an O-fic, too, like so many other around here?

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
No. Not a superhero. Just a gal with a very ignored husband. I do have ambitions to be a Dark Lady however... but that's an entirely different rant.

I'll continue to update M/W/F until I run out of prewritten chapters. It's mostly written. Almost finished. *knock on wood* WIPs are disappointing usually because they get abandoned which is crap. I thought with my ambitious posting schedule that would provide extra motivation to not lose sight of goal. I do write other than SS/HG. No, I'm not working on an O.

I don't want to really work on anything too much until I finish posting TGC. I want to eventually write a Bella fic. I want to write Bella as a person with depth and not the Cartoon-freak JKR writes her as. Nobody is that simple. There's plenty of raw material to work there.

I've also got a few thousand words of a satire fic that's SS/HG. I can email you the first chapter if you're interested. It's a teaser.

[identity profile] sweettiff-14.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, that's the reason I don't like WIPs. Snapes_goddess, over at Granger Enchanted, never posts a story until it's done. Then she's posts a chapter once a week, while writing her next story. That I can handle. I wish more people did that.

So, how long does TGC look to be? I love long stories. I hate it when they end. I always want more. I'm such a glutton.

Bella is a very intriguing character. I always wonder what she was like before Azkaban. And most people portray her as being completely in love with the DL, but that just seems funky. Anyway, I'll totally read it when you write it.

As for the satire, I'll totally take the first chappie. I'll probably beg you for more though, so send it at your own risk! This is why I love LJ because you get so many other little extras throw in. I think that's why I like to beta so much, too; I get to see stuff before anyone else does!

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm hitting around 100,000 words now. I haven't counted 'em all out. I don't think I'll push past 120. Depends. As of this moment I've got 52 Ch with an anticipated 55 total. Some of the 52 are not as well fleshed out to be considered finished. Snapes_goddess also posts to AFF and she's been reviewing TGC there. I bounced off walls when she did. I think my Bella will be post Azkaban. I may have fun writing a split-personality type fic where I head hop between what happens in the real world and what happens in Bella's colored world. I see her as someone who acts without the restraint of an internal censor saying 'that's not proper' Everyone has an internal censor telling them 'no' like when you see an empty hallway and think, 'ooh, perfect to do a cartwheel down' And of course you don't because that would make you mad like Bella.

[identity profile] sweettiff-14.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! It's long! I'm so happy.

That would be quite the story if you wrote Bella that way. It sounds so intriguing, yet quite complex.

Internal censor! Have you seen P.S. I Love You? The bartender/friend doesn't have filter so he just says pretty much everything he thinks. I think it's hilarious. It makes for some pretty stunning conversation.

And I think you're right, Bella doesn't seem to have a filter for her actions. It also brings up the concept of points of view. While some might say doing a cartwheel in an empty hallway is mad, I would think it was awesome, and wish that I was brave enough/mad enough to do it myself. It'd be interesting to see how others, besides only the 'good' guys JKR shows us perceive Bella. Hmm...now I wish I was a writer so I could flesh that out. Oh well.

Thank you!

That burns

[identity profile] christev.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooohhhh, you pooor little thing. I'm sooo sooorrrryyy!!! I hope Timo treats your poor little self so kindly. How nice that your mean old employer lets you stay home and snuggle up in bed and get to the important work of reading and writing smut (and crying at great sshg). Can I get you some tea, a cookie, and a tissue?

Does this make up for Mia's total dissing?! LOL :D

(jk, mia)

At least your burn wasn't caused by stupidity, like when I was at the beach in Florida last February with no sun block. Ouch! Talk about shiny face!

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's it! We need our own private Potion Master to whip up some burn salve. (hush, no need mentioning your FL vacay was a month ago) He can then apply it. Slowly. And reapply often.

I loved Mia's dissing. I often need a boot up my ass.

Hey!
Passing just to say that I'm Mayaaa from FF.Net and that's where I've found your LJ address. Hope to get friendlier with you through here. =)
Kisses!

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello Sweetie! I'm so happy you've found me here. And what a beautiful user photo you have. Such a smile!

Schmootches babe.

[identity profile] mischievous-t.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Feel better apollinav. :((

I was surprised to read you're in the military. I picture you like your icon - porcelain skinned, delicate little thing with a parasol to shield you from the elements. Now, all I can picture is GI Jane with a parasol. :))

Love the chapters, the story, the reliable updates - EVERYTHING!

:::hugs you:::

[identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. I'm a delicate flower.

I think there's an older pic of me in my BDUs in my scrapbook. I'd post it, but I still haven't figured out how to do a lot of crap with LJ.

[identity profile] mischievous-t.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Can only assume BDU is army wear... didn't see any pics resembling GI Jane but saw your pirate pic and it's adorable! You are a delicate flower. :)

How's the next chappie coming along? I felt strangely sorry for Snape at the end of the last one.

Oh no, oh no! I'm sorry you were attacked. Oh, and when life gives you lemons, stuff them in your bra and make your boobs look bigger. That is my priceless axiom of the night.

xx
