Come and have a look-see at my new pretty-pretties. I commissioned  bblackdahlia  to knit these gauntlets for me.  I wanted them for my 18th Century winter impression.  I was so excited when they arrived today, I got kitted out in my wools (100+ weather) to show you how awesome they are.   If you don't know her, she writes under the pen name momodesu, and she takes commissions and even knits house scarves.  Think about it.

And because I am told that there are some witchy people out there, here's a close-up on my 18th Century buckle shoes.  If you want a pair, I bought them from fugawee and they are the 'Connie' style.  Fugawee makes all sorts of reenacting shoes from the 18 to 20th century.   And Droxy - according to the Hubby:  Historical reenacting is NOT cosplay.  Just like G.I. Joes are NOT dolls.  (they're action figures!)

Excellent historical threads. I once worked with a young lady who participated in Civil War reeanactments (there's quite a few here in Michigan), and she even wore hand-sewn undergarments! Bloomers, for heaven's sake! Her second favorite hobby was cake decoration, the red velvet being tops in her book. I think she was a closet Southerner. LOL

Love the shoes. Kinda witchy, in a "Cruicible" way.

Yes, they are. But they're more like mittens because they have thumbholes. It's period-appropriate for the 18th C. Thanks! bblackdahlia is talented.

*Sigh* I defy convention! I'm such a misunderstood person.

My dramatic emo statement for the day - especially after you called me emo the other day... which I've never been called.

And you called me a pragmatist today... which I've never been called either.

But it's much easier to envision the M16 if you knew how often I could go from zero to sixty on the Bitchometer.

I assume you're talking about the blue wool cloak. It's a thick blanket wool and I love it. It's much abused and gets toted to most of the reenactments even if the collar clasp is modern.

Weaving and knitting are two things I don't do. Hence the commission. And I'd like to try my hand at them as well, but only in a fanasty realm. I have way too many hobbies to consider taking them on. And weaving is such an investment. I have a girlfriend who weaves and she has like 6 different looms each of them are worth thosands and take forever to work.

Thanks! I love my 18th Century impression, I have a lot of fun with it. We go out and do encampments and I slog around open pit fires and cook for the masses using historical methods and recipes. Odd sure, but we already knew that.

I don't do CW reenacting because they tend to be um... insane. And I have many pieces that are entire handstitched, but not undergarments for heavensake! Why handwork something nobody will ever see. Most of my historical gear I will machine sew the internal seams and handfinish any hems.

I was trying to figure out what shoes to wear with my witches' costume for Hogsmeade Witch's Weekend, and I was like... duh... 18th Century buckle shoes should be both perfect and stereotypical.

I unfortunately will not be wearing any witchy clothes beyond a tie-dye Weird Sisters shirt. Oh, and pink hair, of course. Trying to keep my luggage to a backpack only.

Every now and then you scare me a little, so I totally buy the M16 bit... although do you look very sweet while you're kicking butt.

Love the gauntlets, love the robe (yay! clasp!), what's that on your head? Did you have to put your hair back in a kerchief since you were sporting wool on such a hot day?!

The hair is wrapped up, which is appropriate for the timeperiod and the impression regardless of the season. A woman doesn't run around with her hair loose! Good heavens! That's as unforgivable as not being in stays.

Thank you, they are a bit snug, but like you said a bit of stretching and they'll be fine. Actually after wearing them I didn't really notice.

I can't believe you sent back the wool. You didn't need to do that. I didn't expect that.

They are indeed! She's very talented. I'm certainly impressed by her skills. I can't manage to make a potholder on one of those kid's weaving frames.
