Overdue picspam

Picspam is of the felting variety.  Even though it's a lot, it's only limited to a few things - I need to sell soon just to have space.

As for writing, I'm nearly done with the gift fic for morethansirius (I only owed it to her months ago).  It keeps growing and growing. But now that I'm in the last stretch, the words just aren't coming.  I'm not happy about that.  I need to kick my own butt and finish it.  I think a writing goal of chap/week is reasonable... let's hope that works.

Many of my friends are going through rough patches at the moment. I feel blessed that right now my life has been mercifully calm.  My love, support, and warm hugs to all who need/want them.








Final pic - that's soap.  Felted soap.  Yep.  No washcloth needed.  The fibers suds it up quickly and it makes a great lather.  -That's why I've been making soap.

SQUEEEE. I love the flowers and the pin cushions. The nest would make a neat hat acessory or hat itself.

Hm. Well it definitely could be pinned to a hat, but it's palm-sized. It would take a considerable amount of felt to make a nest-hat. Perhaps some place for Augusta's bird-hat to roost?

The pincushions are fun to make, and I think they're the easiest to do. I get those styrofoam eggs, chop off the bottoms, smother them in raw felt roving, then pile on colorful felt, drop the whole thing into a cut up pair of pantyhose, and felt. Felting is just wool+hot water+soap+friction

What a FANTASTIC idea. I could so totally make a wrap-necklace (that wraps and wraps and wraps) and then add a flower to it that's very Little Shop of Horrors.

I'm guessing you mean the yellow green flower petals. It's three pieces. Each piece is needle felted into form, then they're wet felted for thickness, and then I cut/sew/twist the layers into shape. That style is by far the most labor intensive of the flowers, but I think it's the best. I have several other colors. My favorite is a light jade color that looks like a lotus. Same style, but by changing the color, it looks entirely different.

That's the only birds nest I've made, but I'm thinking of making more.

The soap I made yesterday was goatsmilk. I can do a whole buncha others like shea butter, cocoa butter, aloe vera.

Oh, and if you have color preference for the felting. Right now I've got the capability to do just about any color/combo you can think of.

I like playing with color - and felt is such a forgiving medium. It's really easy to have fun and make something functional at the same time.

*nods* Felt is a very fun medium. It's actually sheep wool that then gets beaten into submission in the felt making process. It's how the first of mankind made cloth.

Do you make Cold processed soal or melt and pour? I made CP soap for nearly 10 years but am on hiatus now although I still have all the supplies.(As well as all my candlemaking stuff LOL) It is as addictive as fanfiction (Or maybe it's just me, maybe I have an addictive personality).

I especially like the birds nest too, it's so sweet. :)

I 'cheat' it's heat and pour goatsmilk with honey almond scent added. I'm not a soapmaker but for felting soaps I couldn't find what I wanted. I need circular cakes at prices I can afford. These are 3.5 oz cakes and they took me a half hour to make 8 of them.

If I had the time I'd consider cold processing, but I'm a bit hesitant. I was once splashed with lye as a teenager while making French milled.

I'm in the early stages of getting things together to sell online. Having product, yanno... it helps. I've got one location downtown that's going to sell my stuff and I'm talking to another lady who owns a store.

I just am preparing though. The demand has been for large handbags and wallets - and that's a lot of work.
