The inflammatory review from the unregistered user 'The mysterious nobody' has been removed. And I'd like to thank my champions: corbye, irishredlass69, lady_karelia, beffeysue, bloodcult, melusin_79, and dickglouster for their support and excellent advice. I was unaware that I could remove it myself. I was under the impression that FFnet didn't allow that, but as the cowardly reviewer is unregistered it was only a few mouse-clicks to do away with it.

I must admit, I was a bit amused by this.  I had no idea that being called black was an insult, or that race had any bearing on writing ability.
But then, perhaps I just don't get it, because clearly I don't understand the reviewer either.  Regardless, it was petty and bigoted, but now it's gone. Though I rather suspect that the troll reviewer has accomplished their mission by getting people to talk about it.

Please accept my apologies if anyone was offended, I should have been more diligent in removing it the moment it was submitted. But now that I know how to do so, I will endeavor to delete any such future reviews in a timely manner. Simply put, racist crap like this just doesn't have any place in my fandom.

This story, while having its merits, influences a vast misleading hypothesis.Snape is a cruel low lying piece of filth who miraculously is given a choice of freedom, which he is unwilling to yield to.Hermione ,on the other hand,is a wealthy woman, deprived of affection, willing to stoop to the lowest satanic form of lawlessness by hoodwinking the ministry of magic, thus enabling her to continue life wishing for the happy marriage she so foolishly desires. The story has absolutely no plot and is a disgrace to the writing world of well educated and refined writers.I bet you are black, that's why the story is so bad.

Can I just say, OMG and WTF... I must admit, I had to go read the review and all I can think at this moment is whoever they are must have been on drugs or is INSANE....

As nice as it would be to make excuses for the person such as they're on drugs or insane, I'm more likely to believe that they're just your garden-variety, average, lackluster bigot.

I wanna kick FFN for not acting on the complaints they no doubt received about it, but I'm glad you managed to get rid of it. Racism doesn't have any place whatsoever in my life, fandom or elsewhere.

I'm just glad that you are too well balanced to do anything but treat this 'review' with anything but the scorn it deserves.

Apart from the racism (WTF?), the idea that a woman seeking to avoid having her human rights, freedom of choice and 'the happy marriage she so foolishly desires' taken away from her brands her is 'satanic'?

No wonder they stayed anonymous >:(

I would have ignored it entirely, but I had no idea that people were reading my reviews. And that makes this crap out there and in the public eye, so it had to go.

I don't get the review. I'm not going to try and decipher it either, and well, honestly I could give a fat rat's ass about what they think.

What? Oh my gosh! This is just downright hilarious. Is this for real? Were they even reading your story? And what does race have to do with writing ability?

And I love that pulling one over on the Ministry is "the lowest satanic form of lawlessness." I wonder what they think of people who break the speed limit or fudge on their taxes?

And is it really so foolish to desire a happy marriage? Really, just wow.

This had to be awful to receive, but really I can't hardly help but laugh at it. It's completely absurd! Maybe they were drunk, or high, or both and only read every other sentence. Who knows.

Sorry for all the rhetorical questions, but I'm just stunned. Laughing, and stunned. Well, I love TGC. That's all that matters, right? *wink*

The funniest thing about it is that, apparently, this person, whoever it is, clearly has not read the Harry Potter series if they think that ignoring the Ministry's law is "satanic."

The lowest satanic form of lawlessness - is so oddball and crackhead. But I don't really care if they were drunk, or high or both.

Thanks love. TGC should rap up in half a dozen or so more chapters.

Hey Av,
THE representative of "well educated and refined writers" has read your story! Can you imagine, they are probably having a chat all together...Rowlings,Rushdi,Stephen King and this (racist little) person... with steaming tea in their cups, they are having refined and well educated assessments...
My reaction after reading the review was not only that person was racist, but also has goat-dung for brain, that reviewer said,"no plot?" This story? Don't let yourself bothered by such person.Keep on writing, I wait for it all week long.

Oh, I'm not. Honestly I thought of it as a non-issue, especially given how absurd it was. But other's got offended, and that's when I realized that it wasn't just me, but people were reading this crap. And this gives the bigot a forum for their hate speech, and I won't be used for that.

Aw! You were trolled! Don't you feel special that someone went out of their way to try to think up something that could really get your goat? I mean, not everyone goes through the trouble to go that far just for a stranger, and all that effort was given to you personally!!

LOL, what a joke. Some people have too much time and not enough to do. And mental issues. What with all that and personalizing flames for people, I'm sure this person keeps really busy.

Nope. EPIC.FAIL! I wasn't even much perturbed by it. My goat wasn't 'gotten.' I ignored it because it wasn't worth my time. It wasn't until I found out that people were actually seeing it and reading it that I found my anger. Because it meant that this crap was getting noticed and hurting others. The game changed the moment someone else was bothered.

Charming misuse of language.

What I can't work out is, if the story is soooo bad, what are the actual merits? Or, were they just trying to make you feel better before they showed an appalling lack of anything really?

Just goes to show that being a narrow minded bigot also means they haven't got the ability to form a coherent sentence without using jingoism to get the point across.

At the very least, it must be terribly hard on the knuckle dragging pond scum. :p

I can see the amusement in this, but conversely I can also see the pain it must have caused some readers/reviewers. Trolls like this, thrive on that negativity - it's how they get their kicks. I'm afraid, imnsho - that just makes them even more pathetic than they might otherwise have been.

That's an awful horrible nasty review. I wonder who else the culprit has given trouble to.

I know you are feeling traumatized, so I feel a trifle guilty because I can't help laughing at "well educated and refined writers", which is the funniest and stupidest bit of pointless snobbery I have read this year. Makes me want to go off and write something scurrilous just to shock them.

Date: 23 April 2009 11:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apollinav.livejournal.com
Oh, I'm not traumatized much. I even found the delusional rambling funny. But then it can be fun to laugh at the absurd. But then came the bigoted tagline at the end which took it from harmless loony, to foaming at the mouth racist. Interesting how quickly it can shift.

zomg, that was a *horrible* review on so many levels. Perhaps the reviewer should replace "Snape" with his/her own name, and then it would be quite accurate.

It was, disturbing. If there hadn't been that racist drivel at the end, I'd have found the absurd, oddball review kinda endearing in a loony sort of way. Cuz I have a softspot for weird, and I'd probably have taken it to be possibly sarcastic. Some people have weird sense of humor, and I can appreciate that. But the parting comment changed the whole tone, and well, foaming at the mouth bigotry just ain't cute or something I'll abide by. I ignored it when it dropped, mostly because I didn't know how to get rid of it, and mostly because I didn't care to spend my wheels worrying about stupidity. But then I found out that people were reading it and getting offended, and I will not allow this to hurt others. The troll has already taken up their allotted spotlight time.

And can I point out that, irrespective of the race issue, which is a total non-sequitur, the person who is deriding your writing capability has no fewer than 8 grammar/punctuation mistakes in his/her post. Hmmm . . .

Oh, and you don't know me from Eve, but I wandered around ffnet, and stumbled across your work, and am really enjoying it, especially since this isn't a relationship I ever would have imagined working. You write very well, and make the characters very believable in their own growth and interactions. I am very much looking forward to reading the new chapters as they are posted.
Thank you for sharing your work.

This reviewer is actually taking pot-shots at the moral integrity of fictional characters and the writing ability of the author - all the while in desperate need of a remedial English class and a character transplant.

It's practically performance art.
